Noah Weiss is VP of product at Slack, one of the world’s biggest messaging platforms. But he’s enjoyed a varied career spanning a number of other roles, too. He has worked in product management with major brands, including Foursquare and Google
Noah earned a BA in science, technology, and society at Stanford University.
Since January 2016, Noah Weiss has been VP of product at Slack, based in San Francisco’s Bay Area. Noah was previously SVP product management at Foursquare for more than five years and product manager at Google for more than two years.
He was also a frontend developer & product manager at Cooliris, a user experience designer at Google, and a software engineer & product manager at Fog Creek Software.
In his present role as Slack’s VP of product, Noah has led the company’s expansion and emerging products group. He also started up Slack’s New York City office as well as its search, learning, and intelligence division.
But beyond his product management work, Noah is a vocal presence online, particularly on Medium. He has authored a variety of insightful posts related to product and product management, sharing his own valuable advice on product strategy.
Noah has also been covered in an article at Fast Company, in which he discussed his “weekend rating system” (a great idea for all PMs!) and his passion for “creating new things, creating new ideas”. The views and routines Noah shares in this piece can help to inspire those working in product development or product management — and anyone else who wants to become more productive in their creativity.
For example, Noah takes a reflective approach to the work he’s accomplished each week, to identify how effective and efficient he’s been. He believes this helps him to keep improving, as "it’s hard to get better at something if you don’t reflect on it". That’s agile thinking in practice!
You can learn more about Noah Weiss at Medium, which hosts a variety of his posts, such as "10 Traits of Great PMs" and "Five Dangerous Myths about Product Management".
He’s also contributed to Quartz, where his "What almost everyone misunderstands about product managers" is a no-punches-pulled clarification of what product managers aren’t.
Weiss has also been covered in a comprehensive article at Forbes: "Slack’s AI Exec On How Machine Learning Is Changing The Future Of Work".
